The song was produced by myself and Lex Luger—Mike Dean and Charlie Heat worked on it after the fact as well.
Lex started the beat, he had the chords down already. I took some stems from him, reworked some of the production and got Travis to do that hook, which is really my vision for the song.
I saw Kanye a few months after that. We were playing each other ideas and I said, “I have this song that Travis already started working on, wanna hear it?” And he loved it. He loved the chords and Travis’ hook and was like “Can I grab those files? I wanna do something with this.” Mike Dean and Charlie Heat updated some of the production and that turned into “Champions.”
