King of My Heart Lyrics » Taylor Swift
[Verse 1]
I’m perfectly fine, I live on my own
I made up my mind, I’m better off bein’ alone
We met a few weeks ago
Now you try on callin’ me “baby” like tryin’ on clothes
[Pre-Chorus]
Salute to me, I’m your American queen
And you move to me like I’m a Motown beat
And we rule the kingdom inside my room
‘Cause all the boys and their expensive cars
With their Range Rovers and their Jaguars
Never took me quite where you do
[Chorus]
And all at once, you are the one I have been waitin’ for
King of my heart, body and soul, woah
And all at once, you’re all I want, I’ll never let you go
King of my heart, body and soul, woah
[Post-Chorus]
And all at once
I’ve been waitin’, waitin’
Woah, woah
And all at once
You are the one, I have been waitin’, waitin’
Body and soul, woah
And all at once

About Taylor Swift’s King of My Heart from reputation (2017)
During a Secret Session hosted by iHeart Radio, Swift
revealed
that the goal for the 10th
reputation
track was to make each session of the song sound like a move forward in a relationship – she also said that it’s something she’s been wanting to do for years, but finally succeeded with this song.
“King of My Heart” was first teased on October 26th, 2017, during Swift’s
music video
for her single
“…Ready For It?”
, where its song title was hinted at by a red graffiti crowned heart, which was in the background on a wall.
Taylor also makes other references to kingdoms throughout
reputation
, in songs like
“Look What You Made Me Do”
and
“Call It What You Want.”
However, the kingdom in which she refers to in “King Of My Heart” is definitely a more intimate, just between her and her lover, personal, and special.

FAQs About King of My Heart
What did Taylor Swift say about “King of My Heart”?
One thing about the “…Ready For It?” music video that you saw, which you might not have picked up on because you weren’t freeze framing every single thing of the video, but in a lot of the scenes, there’ll be lyrics from the album that no one’s heard yet graffitied on the walls. There’s a buch of hearts with crowns on them for the song “King Of My Heart.” And basically, this song, I think it’s really interesting when people talk about their love stories, when you guys vlog about, like, “This is me and my husband,” “This is me and my boyfriend,” or anybody talking about how they fell in love, there seemed to be these definitive phases – it doesn’t matter how long that phase lasts, there seems to be a moment when you knew it transitioned to the next phase. People will be, like, “Oh, my God, we were friends for six years and there was this moment and we knew and then it changed, then it was a moment and it got even deeper and there was a moment and we knew.” Or, like, “I saw this person and there was this moment and we knew.” Everybody has a different story with how they connect with someone else, and what I find interesting are the moments where it switches, because you always hope that that switch is gonna move you forward and not backward, because it can happen either way. So, I’ve always wanted to structure a song where each individual section of the song sounded like a move forward in the relationship, but still being listenable. So I wanted the verse to sound like its own phase of a relationship, the pre-chorus to sound like its own phase of a relationship and the chorus to sound like its own phase of a relationship, and I wanted them to all have their own identity, but seem like they were getting deeper and more fast-paced as the song went on. So finally I was able to achieve that in a song.

Was Swift inspired by pop culture in the making of the song?
Yes! Swift told
Entertainment Weekly
that much of the album was influenced by HBO’s smash hit
Game of Thrones
.
‘King of My Heart’ was influenced by Khal Drogo and Daenerys. It’s even got this post-hook of drums — I wanted them to sound like Dothraki drums.
