Delicate Lyrics » Taylor Swift

[Intro]
This ain’t for the best
My reputation’s never been worse, so
You must like me for me
We can’t make
Any promises now, can we, babe?
But you can make me a drink
[Verse 1]
Dive bar on the East Side, where you at?
Phone lights up my nightstand in the black
Come here, you can meet me in the back
Dark jeans and your Nikes, look at you
Oh, damn, never seen that color blue
Just think of the fun things we could do
[Pre-Chorus]
(‘Cause I like you) This ain’t for the best
My reputation’s never been worse, so
You must like me for me
(Yeah, I want you) We can’t make
Any promises now, can we, babe?
But you can make me a drink
[Chorus]
Is it cool that I said all that?
Is it chill that you’re in my head?
‘Cause I know that it’s delicate (Delicate)
Is it cool that I said all that?
Is it too soon to do this yet?
‘Cause I know that it’s delicate

About Taylor Swift’s Delicate from reputation (2017)

Much like
“Gorgeous,”
“Delicate” sees Taylor taking a more hesitant approach while pursuing a new man, likely Joe Alwyn, her boyfriend as of the song’s release. Sonically, the record utilizes chilling voice harmonies backed by a simple instrumental.
“Delicate” follows Taylor’s pattern of the fifth song of her albums being one about vulnerable emotions, following previous fifth tracks
“Cold As You,”
“White Horse,”
“Dear John,”
“All Too Well,”
and
“All You Had To Do Was Stay.”
Notably, this is the first of those songs to be about the beginning of a relationship.
“Delicate” topped Rob Sheffield of

FAQs About Delicate

What did Taylor Swift say about “Delicate”?
And next, we have track 5. I didn’t even do it on purpose, but when I put out the final tracklist, I was like, “Oh, I did it again. I did it again.” Track 5 is kind of a legendary – not legendary, that’s ridiculous – amongst us. Like, “Oh, I know I’m going to like track 5, track 5 is the emotional, vulnerable song.” Anyway, so this is a song called “Delicate.” There’s an effect that you may hear on the vocals throughout the rest of the album that is recurring and it’s a voccoder. “What is that?,” you say. It’s a vocal effect where you sing and the vocoder splits your voice into chords and you can play your voice on a keyboard in chords. So, basically, if you’re playing the chords of a piano, you can play your own voice. So that’s what you’ll hear in the beginning and throughout the song and then you’ll hear it several times throughout the record. We tried it in the studio and I thought it sounded really emotional and really vulnerable and really kind of, like, sad, but beautiful. This is a song that, like, the idea of your reputation is definitely something I play on during the entire album, but when the album starts out, it’s much more bombastic, is more, like, “Oh, I don’t care what you say about me, I don’t care what you say about my reputation, it doesn’t matter,” but then, it hits this point on track 5 where it’s, like, “Oh, my God, what happens when you meet somebody that you really want in your life and then you start worrying about what they’ve heard before they met you?” And you start to wonder, like, “Could something fake, like your reputation, affect something real, like somebody getting to know you?” And you start to wonder how much does all that matter. And this is the first point of vulnerability in the record, where you’re like, “Oh, maybe this does actually matter a little bit” and how does that factor in kind of questioning the reality and the perception of a reputation, how much weight it actually has.

The Making of Delicate
What’s the meaning of this song?
Speaking at the iHeartRadio reputation release party, Taylor had this to say about the track:
“This is a song where the idea of reputation is definitely something that I play on for the entire album but when the album started off it’s much more bombastic. ‘I don’t care what you say about me! I don’t care say about my reputation. Blah.’ But, like, then it hits this point on Track 5 where it’s like what happens when you meet someone who you really want in your life and then you start worrying about what they’ve heard before they met you? You start to wonder like, ‘Could something fake, like your reputation, affect something real like someone getting to know you?’ You start to wonder how it all matters. This is the first point of vulnerability in the record where you’re like, ‘Oh, maybe this does actually matter a little bit,’ and questioning the reality and the perception of a reputation and how much weight it actually has. So this is called ‘Delicate.’”
