Joyride Lyrics » Rihanna

[Verse 1]
What you lookin’ at now, baby?
Won’t you use your own mind, oh
I’ve been all alone, right, baby
Can’t do a sober drive, no
Fall in love in November nights
Cold weather in the winter time, oh, oh
Guess you know when the time is right
Let’s go on a little joyride, oh
[Chorus]
Livin’ life, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la
Livin’ life, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la
Livin’ life, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la
Livin’ life, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la
[Verse 2]
Tell me what you’re lookin’ at, baby
Been in this club for a long time, no
Need another shot now, baby
Roll another joint, let go
I been rock n’ rollin’ with my ex
We’ve been gettin’ closer to the X
We be always poppin’ like the X
Crossin’ out the haters with a X

FAQs About Joyride

What is the story behind the song?

The track was originally demoed by Travis Scott and sent to singer-songwriter Tinashe to rework. Soon after, in sessions for her eighth album ANTI Rihanna also decided to record and re-write sections of the track.
Both versions of the track were registered on ASCAP and BMI in 2015/16:
The song is said to have caused delays in both Rihanna and TInashe’s album release dates. When asked by a fan about the song and the removal of her songwriting credit, Tinashe said they had removed all the parts she had added to the demo but that she was still hoping to name her album after, and include the track:
She further added that due to Scott’s romantic relationship with Rihanna that she had been given priority over the track, even after Scott was told she was planning to place the track and furthermore name her album after it:
Producer
Glass John
also went on a Twitter rant after finding out that the song he produced with
Jeff Bhasker
: “Kiss It Better” was being considered for replacement as the lead
ANTI
single. He detailed that ROCNATION were insisting on a Travis Scott collaboration as the next single and more songs with Scott for the album, even after the mediocre performance of the first Rihanna/Scott collaboration “Bitch Better Have My Money” on the charts. He said this was due to both Rihanna’s romantic relationship with Scott and Scott’s close relationship with ROCNATION managers.
He also said that this had delayed the album by several months [the album was meant to follow soon after the “…Money” single release on March 26, 2015 and was eventually not released until January 28, 2016)
Ultimately, Rihanna did not use her version of the track on the final album, choosing instead the Travis Scott collaborations “Woo” and “Pose”. The lead single instead became “Work”, although “Kiss It Better” did eventually become the second promo single.
Tinashe was then free to use her version of the song for her second studio album
Joyride
, also allowing her to name the album after the track.
