SKIN TO BONE Lyrics » Linkin Park

[Verse 1: Mike Shinoda]
Skin to bone, steel to rust
Ash to ashes, dust to dust
Let tomorrow have its way with the promises we made
Skin to bone, steel to rust
[Verse 2: Chester Bennington
with Mike Shinoda
]
Ash to ashes, dust to dust
Your deception, my disgust
When your name is finally drawn
I’ll be happy that you’re gone
Ash to ashes, dust to dust
[Chorus: Chester Bennington]
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Ash to ashes, dust to dust
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Skin to bone and steel to rust
[Verse 3: Mike Shinoda & Chester Bennington]
Right to left, left to right
Night to day and day to night
As the starlight fades to grey, I’ll be marchin’ far away
Right to left and left to right
[Chorus: Chester Bennington]
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Ash to ashes, dust to dust
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Skin to bone and steel to rust

About Linkin Park’s SKIN TO BONE from LIVING THINGS (2012)

“SKIN TO BONE” is the ninth track off of
Linkin Park
’s fifth studio album
LIVING THINGS
.
In an
interview
for the album,
Chester Bennington
talked about how certain tracks started out as folk songs and cited “SKIN TO BONE” as an example of the change.
Brad Delson
also stated something similar in an
interview
with MusicRadar in 2012:
“SKIN TO BONE” has it and “
CASTLE OF GLASS
” has it. I listened to a lot of those old folk songs for song structure, and I found that the A sections have the meat, and B is like a bridge or a departure and then you come back to the A; whereas in pop radio or hip-hop or rock for the most part these days, it’s like the verse is always serving the chorus – the second thing is the hook. The songs are structurally and inherently more of a folk form.
The song has never been played live on its own before and is one of the most unpopular tracks on
LIVING THINGS
, merely beating three other tracks on the album in
Spotify streams
.
