Rhinestone (Xero Demo) Lyrics » Linkin Park
[Intro: Mark Wakefield,
Mike Shinoda
]
From the top to the bottom
(Bottom to top, I stop)
At the core of the rotten
(Stoppin’ right when I thought)
But the sun has escaped us
(So I’m fightin’ the sky)
And I’m far from my weightless
(Thinkin’, “why did I try?”)
From the top to the bottom
(Bottom to top, I stop)
At the core of the rotten
(Stoppin’ right when I thought)
But the sun has escaped us
(So I’m fightin’ the sky)
And I’m far from my weightless
(Thinkin’, “why did I try?”)
[Verse 1: Mike Shinoda,
with Mark Wakefield
]
From the thread to the needle, middle-to-end
When skies cock back and shock that which
couldn’t defend
The rain then sends
dripping an acidic question
Forcefully, the power of suggestion
Then, with the eyes tightly shut
Lookin’ through the rust, and rot and dust
A spot of light floods the floor
And pours itself upon the world of pretend
Then the eyes ease open,
and it’s dark again
[Pre-Chorus: Mark Wakefield,
Mike Shinoda
]
From the top to the bottom
(Bottom to top, I stop)
At the core of the rotten
(Stoppin’ right when I thought)
But the sun has escaped us
(So I’m fightin’ the sky)
And I’m far from my weightless
(Thinkin’, “why did I try?”)
From the top to the bottom
(Bottom to top, I stop)
At the core of the rotten
(Stoppin’ right when I thought)
But the sun has escaped us
(So I’m fightin’ the sky)
And I’m far from my weightless
(Thinkin’, “why did I try?”)

About Linkin Park’s Rhinestone (Xero Demo) from Xero 9-Track Demo CD (1998)
“Rhinestone” is a demo version of “
Forgotten
” by Xero, the previous incarnation of Linkin Park, with Mark Wakefield as the lead vocalist before the group have met Chester Bennington as their lead vocalist. As the group was trying to make themselves into a band in 1996, they would record this along with three other songs on a cassette tape and distribute it to friends and family.
The song was professionally re-recorded two years later with professional equipment as well as live drumming, where that version was officially released by Linkin Park on the
20th edition of
Hybrid Theory
with a premiere debut on the SiriusXM limited Linkin Park Radio on the 5th of October, 2020.
