Hair Lyrics » Lady Gaga

[Intro]
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, whoa
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, whoa
[Verse 1]
Whenever I’m dressed cool, my parents put up a fight
(
Uh-huh, uh-huh
)
And if I’m a hot shot, mom will cut my hair at night
(
Uh-huh, uh-huh
)
And in the morning, I’m short of my identity
(
Uh-huh, uh-huh
)
I scream, “Mom and Dad, why can’t I be who I wanna be?”
(
Uh-huh, uh-huh
)
To be
[Pre-Chorus]
I just wanna be myself, and I want you to love me for who I am
I just wanna be myself, and I want you to know
I am my hair
[Chorus]
I’ve had enough, this is my prayer
That I’ll die living just as free as my hair
I’ve had enough, this is my prayer
That I’ll die living just as free as my hair
I’ve had enough, I’m not a freak
I just keep fightin’ to stay cool on these streets
I’ve had enough, enough, enough
And this is my prayer, I swear
I’m as free as my hair
I’m as free as my hair
I am my hair
I am my hair

About Lady Gaga’s Hair from Born This Way (2011)

“Hair” is a song from Lady Gaga’s second studio album “Born This Way”. The song starts out with a slow piano melody which then turns into a dance beat influenced by rock music. The saxophone played by Clarence Clemons from the E Street Band is reminiscent of the 80s. It is also a throwback at Gaga’s childhood. The title of the song is a metaphor for identity and freedom.

FAQs About Hair

What did Lady Gaga say about “Hair”?
Lady Gaga
It’s uptempo, but it’s sort of got this Bruce Springsteen vibe to it. I actually had Clarence Clemons come in. He played saxophone. It’s really interesting, because it’s putting saxophone on this really huge electronic record.
Clarence Clemons, who plays saxophone on the song, about his interpretation of the song:
It’s a story about growing up. She gave him very few instructions about how to play on the song. She said ‘we’ll put the tape on and you just play. She said to me, ‘Play from your heart. Play what you feel.’ It was all very pure.I play sax through the whole song and I have a solo. I’m surprised I’m getting paid for this. I would have done it for free. I can never believe something that feels so good earns me money. She’s the real deal. All the craziness and stuff, there’s a purpose to all of it. She has no boundaries … It’s a day I’ll never forget. I always wait for Bruce to call and say ‘come do this’ and it’s real exciting for me. I never saw this happening, though.
