Ed explained at his iTunes Live performance that while he lived out in the boonies with his friends, he’d go to music fests and get so drunk that he’d wander off and watch random performances and just meet new people, acting like he’d known them for years. In his performance, he asked everyone to hold the person next to them tight, and pretend like they would love each other forever even though they might not know each other. He was recreating his experiences through this song.
