C.O.D. Lyrics » AC DC

[Verse 1]
Call of a dog, cry of a bitch
The cream of a dream is the cause of the itch
Call on the doctor, cash on demand
If I get enough rope, might even hang
[Chorus]
C.O.D., care of the devil
C.O.D., the devil in me
C.O.D., care of the devil
Care of the devil in me
[Verse 2]
The curse of love is the cause of the pain
The crime of the day is when you do it again
Call on the doctor, cash on demand
If you give them a finger, they’ll take off your hand
[Chorus]
C.O.D., care of the devil
C.O.D., the devil in me
C.O.D., care of the devil
Care of the devil in me
Down to the devil with me
[Bridge]
Call of the dog, cry of a bitch
The sign of a sinner’s the size of his itch

About AC DC’s C.O.D. from For Those About to Rock We Salute You (1981)

“C.O.D.” was the seventh track on the album
For Those About To Rock
released November 23rd 1981, the follow up album to Back In Black. Along with the rest of the album, it was recorded in Paris, France produced by Robert Lange and Atlantic Records label.
The song is apparently in response to accusations that AC/DC were Satanists who were corrupting America’s youth. “I may wear black underwear now and again but that’s it.” – Angus Young.
In a typical AC/DC fashion, they made a catchy song to support the accusations.
The song is not among AC/DC’s most popular songs, however at the time this was written, the most viewed video of the song on YouTube was exceeding 750,000 views.
Many initialisms (types of acronyms in which the initials are not said as a word) of C.O.D. are littered throughout the song. Modern day listeners would relate this primarily to “Call of Duty,” but at the time the phrase “Cash on Delivery” was on mind.
The theme of C.O.D. appears to tell the story of the recklessly sexual protagonist (main character, singer) getting an STD.
