Omen (Acoustic) Lyrics » Sam Smith

[Verse 1]
Hmm, I’m feeling something, something different
When you left, the picture changed
I was blinded, I’d not envisioned
The same face in a different frame
[Pre-Chorus]
It’s an omen, caught my baby crying
Saw the silver lining
It must be an omen
Needed you to show me
Without you I am lonely
[Chorus]
My mind would rule my heart
I didn’t pay attention to the light in the dark
It left me torn apart
But now I see your tears as an omen
[Refrain]
Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh
Omen
Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh
Omen
[Verse 2]
You were waiting, I was vacant
You left before my eyes
Then it hit me, you’re relocating
And I need you by my side

About Sam Smith’s Omen (Acoustic) from In the Lonely Hour (Drowning Shadows Edition) (2015)

The original of this song, performed with
Disclosure
was first heard as part of their 2015 album,
Caracal
, and then issued as lead single. This slower version, available as a download, as a track on the ‘Drowning Shadows’ edition of ‘In the Lonely Hour’ and on YouTube, has Sam Smith singing with spare backing instruments and a completely different mood.
Sam Smith had vocal training since childhood and through his teenage years with jazz singer and songwriter Joanna Eden. Her influence can be seen in Sam’s performance, with his vocal versatility, his ability to explore unusual chord prgressions and improvise variations. The pace is much slower than Disclosure’s, in which Sam sings it as a dance number, but here showcases his wide vocal range and remarkable voice. This is a more specialised version that will appeal to jazz fans.
Detailed annotations of the lyric can be found on the page for the Disclosure version.
